Cotton Patch sews up family business awards

Patchwork and quilting company, Cotton Patch, has been named as the winner of the IoD West Midlands’ Family Business of the Year, sponsored by the Birmingham office of Smith & Williamson.

Established by Geoff Sewell and his family 26 years ago, Cotton Patch has grown to become one of the UK’s biggest suppliers of equipment and products, including fabrics, accessories and machinery, to patch-workers and quilters.

It is based in Hall Green, Birmingham, and also sells via its website, giving customers easy access to the latest product lines.

Cotton Patch is now the leading supplier of long arm quilting machines, with systems installed throughout Europe and new distribution agreements continuing to be developed with major companies in the United States.

Ian Hill, an associate director at Smith & Williamson, the accountancy, investment management and tax group, said: “The quality of entrants was extremely high again this year and I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the successful family-run businesses that made the short-list.

“I’m delighted to offer particular congratulations to Geoff Sewell and his family for their achievements in developing Cotton Patch into the robust business it is today.”

Around 200 people attended the awards ceremony which took place at Edgbaston Stadium and was compered by local historian and media personality, Professor Carl Chinn.
