The town is planning to stage various displays to support the Tour in the run up to the event and on the day itself, with several local businesses getting involved in the celebrations.
Simon Bailes Peugeot in particular has commissioned a supply of wooden bikes to be displayed around the town.
Bailes said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Northallerton to showcase everything good that the town has to offer.
“The town and its people and businesses must come together to make this a day to remember and make sure that everyone is talking about Northallerton and what a brilliant event the town organised.
“We are delighted to be able to offer the wooden bikes for people to paint or decorate themselves and use to welcome the Tour de Yorkshire to the town.”
Mayor of Northallerton, cllr John Forrest, commented: “We are delighted that the Tour de Yorkshire is coming through our county town and are asking the community as a whole to get involved.
“Store holders, shopkeepers, restaurants and business can decorate their shop front. Families can also get involved and have fun if they live on the route.
“Of course, the bikes are available to all from the town hall and we are asking everyone to let us know what they are doing on the day by contacting the town hall so we can include their activities on the itinerary for the day.
“Let’s all make the most of the Tour de Yorkshire and put Northallerton on the map!’’
