Irwin Mitchell lends emerging entrepreneurs a hand

Budding entrepreneurs are being given the opportunity to benefit from professional advice on critical business opportunities by BQ’s Emerging Entrepreneurs supporter, Irwin Mitchell.

The round-table workshops focus on those areas, like investment and management of intellectual property, where entrepreneurs don’t always get the advice that can help to protect their business ideas.

Irwin Mitchell sees entrepreneurs as the lifeblood of the economy, and recognises the importance of ensuring that they get off to the best start with the right support - which is why they sponsor the Emerging Entrepreneur awards.

Andrea Cropley, corporate partner at Irwin Mitchell, said: “As a manager or an investor in a high growth SME, you will be focussed on delivery of the business plan; achieving sales growth and profitability.

“Although some of the detail may appear less important in the early stages of your journey, getting it right along the way could mean the difference between a valuable business or a business with distracting issues that undermine growth plans and limit opportunities at a later date.

“Our Emerging Entrepreneur Workshops will address some of the key commercial legal issues that will need to be faced to ensure protection and ownership of brand and to maximise the value in business connections.

“We will also look at the investment process and the balancing of conflicts between founders and investors to ensure that the aspirations of all stakeholders are met.”

BQ managing director Bryan Hoare said: “We have a great culture of entrepreneurialism in the UK, and these workshops from Irwin Mitchell will help even more people to properly protect and manage their business interests. Their support is invaluable, and the nature of these very intimate events will allow businesses to get the very best value from their time.”

Subjects include:

Equity investment - they will guide you through the process and share their experience of working with, and for, a range of angel investors, venture capital funds and private equity providers on the one hand, and management teams and corporates on the other.

Protecting your IPbrand - all businesses have intellectual property (“IP”) and yet when you are in the early stages of developing your business, IP issues can be put on the back burner. Getting IP basics right can create value for the company and stop it losing money through piracy and infringement. They will look at identifying, owning and protecting your IP assets and looking after your brand.

Commercial contracts (including trading online) - cash will be your lifeblood and you need to look after your business health. Complying with consumer law, getting paid and making it clear what you are selling or providing are all points you need to cover in your commercial agreements. They will equip you to look again at your contracts and decide how to manage your business relationships.

Each workshop will take place at Irwin Mitchell’s offices - click on the location you would like to attend to register your place.
