Meet the MD: Darren Ludbrook of Ludbrooks Estate Agents

Darren Ludbrook of Ludbrooks Estate Agents is a jack of all trades juggling finance, staff management, valuations and viewings over six days a week. He took some time out of his busy schedule to sit down with BQ...

What does your role include?

My role includes finances, staff management, valuations and viewings over six days a week for my company, Ludbrooks Estate Agents.

What is it the company does?

We are an estate agents selling and letting properties, anything from £30,000 to £3,000,000. We cover all aspects of estate agency from the smallest property to the largest

Give us a brief timeline of your career so far – where did you start, how did you move on?

I started working in home improvements and sales, before progressing into property. I built up my own property portfolio before consolidating that into my first company, Artisan Homes. Since then that has grown into the home improvement sector itself and allowed me to launch Ludbrooks Estate Agents specifically tailored to the property market.

What do you believe makes a great leader?

A great leader should be able to focus and listen to others, as well as having a good work ethic. An open mind is essential to being a great leader.

What has been your biggest challenge in your current position?

My greatest challenge is working to completion deadlines!

How do you alleviate the stress that comes with your job?

I love to keep active, I play football for a local side and jog regularly. I’m also a keen flyer and currently in training for my helicopter licence which I hope to incorporate into an additional service for Ludbrooks.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was very young I wanted to be a fireman. I’ve always been fascinated by property and sales so those drew my attention when I was growing up and looking for a career.

Any pet hates in the workplace? What do you do about them?

Bickering among staff is a definite pet hate. It’s important to be motivated and focused as a team and having divisions over small issues is a large detriment to that.

Where do you see the company in five years’ time?

We aspire to open one new branch per year within West Yorkshire, so within 5 years we intend to have six branches covering all aspects of property over a large area in West Yorkshire.

What advice would you give to an aspiring business leader?

One thing - never give up!
