Johnsons of Whixley supplies floating beer garden

Harrogate-based plant nursery, Johnsons of Whixley, has won a contract to supply over 700 varieties of plants for a floating beer garden display on East London’s canals.

Johnsons of Whixley was selected by Oxford-based DHB Group, a promotional equipment solutions brand, for its high-quality plants to use on the beer boat garden display which has been designed to open minds to new ideas, sounds, sights and tastes in the midst of busy urban life.

The floating garden, which is now open to the public, will be docked at Hackney Wick’s Number 90 Bar & Kitchen during the week and set sail on the canals of the city on the weekends, from 30 July through to 21 August, serving beer and canapés.

The boat is 18 metres long by almost three metres wide and features £5,000 worth of plants from Johnsons, including ivy hedging screens, shrubs and perennials.

DHB Group visited Johnsons of Whixley’s Cash & Carry in June to select the plants following a referral by The Bus Business - a long-standing Harrogate business and Johnsons’ client, which designs a range of vehicles for customers across the UK and overseas. A recent order worth £1,000 worth of buxus cones and balls was sent to a premium spirit brand for a project in France.

Pete Waters, managing director of DHB Group said: “Johnsons could not have been more helpful and informed about the variety, the care and the delivery of the service they gave. We will use them again and again in the future and highly recommend their services to all.”
