The University of Bradford is working with Leeds-based cracker manufacturer, Rakusens Ltd, on a KTP project to improve the efficiency of their production lines.
Dr Savas Konur is using big data intelligence to help a cracker biscuit manufacturer improve the capacity of its product lines.
Although product lines are technically identical, switching products between lines is not possible and therefore it is impossible to have a flexible planning process that allows the company to reach its ‘real’ capacity opportunity.
Bradford Computer Science academics are using a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to apply Big Data, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and Artificial Intelligence research principles to create an intelligent manufacturing dashboard, which models production, ingredients, and supply chain components to produce consistent quality food products efficiently.
The graduate, Yang Lang, employed in the company to support the KTP, has been working closely with Dr Savas Konur at the university to collect real-time data. Once data is collected it will provide an insight into the current processes, which can be analysed to identify where improvements can be made.
KTP’s have been running for more than 40 years and help businesses improve productivity and performance to stay competitive.
On average, each project delivers an increase of £600,000 in pre-tax profit a few years after the project, two new jobs, and 20 staff trained for the host company.
