A Derbyshire-Dales business has seen a 45% increase in turnover after they turned to business growth support from the Sheffield City Region Growth Hub Enhancement Project, which is financed by the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.
CEM Solutions, which provides emissions-monitoring equipment and services, has received one-to-one guidance from the Growth Hub since March 2017. This support has not only helped to secure new business, but has increased turnover by 45% from £275,000 per year to £400,000.
The new business has been vital to the Darley Dale firm as a year ago it depended on only a small number of existing clients for as much as 80% of its revenue. The company is now predicting turnover to rise by a further 150% for next year.
As well as the increase in turnover, CEM has hired new employees to manage the rapid growth, with staff also attending the project’s masterclasses on sales and strategy.
Jo Lloyd, director at CEM Solutions said: “Not coming from a sales background, we had a scattergun approach to attracting new customers and we needed support to be more proactive in driving customers to our business.
“Our business growth specialist came in with very challenging, difficult questions – exactly what we needed.
“He challenged how we operate, motivated us to come up with solutions and created real excitement, opening our eyes to new possibilities we had no idea we could achieve.”
The support CEM received included an analysis of its current customer base and customer journeys as well as a strategic planning exercise and the development of marketing messages.
This has helped improve relationships with key accounts and generate more enquiry levels from the company’s website.
The Enhancement Project provides businesses with intensive one-to-one support from a business growth specialist or key account manager and access to free masterclasses delivered by private sector experts.
